'honor society/deans list type of for profit organizations out there in which the only requirement for membership is a check, at least where I went to school, the National Honor Society was always a legit organization.Also, based on the logic given by you for signing up, it would be more concerning if this society promised $50,000 to anyone who paid the $95.00 fee, rather than having a vetting process (like all legitimate scholarships do) to give out awards.
